Where To Eat In Rockford. Restaurants We Love!
Rockford is a city with all kinds of restaurants, many of them well known. There is the ever popular JMK Nippon and the elegant Franchesco’s Restaurant, but what are some of the lesser known places to eat in this amazing city? We asked each team member to pick their favorite. Some are high-end dining and some are just rustic joints off the beaten path, but all should be put on your must-eat list immediately. Warning: proceed with caution. This list is guaranteed to cause salivation and hunger!
Ashley’s pick: Mexico Clasico
This Mexican restaurant has a colorful, fun atmosphere with great portions and equally great prices. We think the margaritas are the best in town!
Location: 3929 Broadway, Rockford, Il 61108 http://mexicoclasicorockford.com/
Recommendation: Order the authentic guacamole. They make it fresh right at the table!
Kit’s pick: Marc’s Fusion Café
This sushi joint is the best in Rockford. It may not look like much from the outside but has a great atmosphere inside. The sushi rolls are gigantic in size and look like edible pieces of art. You must arrive early as the seating is limited and they don’t take reservations.
Location: 4133 Charles St, Rockford, Il 61108 https://www.facebook.com/Marcs-Fusion-Cafe-963286427056557/
Recommendation: The crab rangoon is made with real crab and is sensational. Note: it is only available on Saturdays though!
Kristen’s pick: Greenfire
This upscale restaurant has a rustic, woodsy atmosphere. The diverse menu offers wood-fired pizzas and unique entrees using locally sourced ingredients. We don’t want to forget to mention the extended bakery with homemade pies, cakes, and chocolates.
Location: 6795 E. Riverside Blvd, Rockford, Il 61114 http://www.greenfirerestaurant.com/
Recommendation: For you pasta lovers, the wild mushroom and asparagus ravioli is to die for.
Missy’s pick: La Michoacana
Don’t fret the name. This quaint little ice cream shop has American and Spanish menus. The ice-cream is fresh, authentic and hand made. The all natural fruit popsicles are refreshing and healthy. The staff is super friendly, and the best part is that it’s just down the street from Mexico Clasico, so you can hit it up right after dinner!
Location: 6609 Kishwaukee St, Rockford, Il 61104 https://www.facebook.com/lamichoacana/
Recommendation: Try the Mangonada. You may not be able to pronounce it, but you will love it!
Dr. Shick’s pick: Five Forks
This tapas influenced restaurant has incredibly unique food with an ever changing menu. The farm to table ingredients make these dishes even more delicious. This is fine dining in a more casual setting. There is also a wine bar with craft gin and whiskey.
Location: 6565 Lexus Drive, Rockford, Il 61108 http://www.fiveforksmarket.com/
Recommendation: Two words…brussel sprouts. Who knew they could be so delicious?!
Tricia’s pick: Octane
This longtime internet café is known for its phenomenal service. You can go for great cocktails or great coffee. It is the perfect downtown choice after an Ice Hogs game or a great concert at the BMO center.
Location: 124 N. main St, Rockford, Il 61101 http://www.octane.net/2016/Home.html
